Propyzamide is a highly concentrated herbicide which remains in the soil, preventing wintergrass as well as killing very young seedlings that may already be present.
When should I use Propyzamide?
Propyzamide is a pre-emergent herbicide preventing common grass weeds like Winter Grass.
It works as the weed emerge and when they are still small seedlings, it can damage fully grown Wintergrass but not completely kill it.
That means the barrier needs to be down before or just as the seeds start to germinate. The ideal time for this is as soils cool down. That means late February as soils coil into Autumn.
How do I use it?
Simply grab a sprayer and put 12ml of product into 5L of water and apply over 100m2. After applying water in with at least 12mm of irrigation. The product is named after the very active ingredient in it, Propyzamide.

Propyzamide is a root absorbed herbicide, as seedlings germinate the new roots take up water which contains the herbicide and the leaves change to red/yellow and the wintergrass dies over a few weeks.
How do I get the best results?
A nice even coverage and watering in well is important.
How much water should I apply to water in?
Watering in with 12mm is recommended immediately after application.The best way to achieve this is with a sprinkler and the use of an empty tuna can, measure 12mm up the side and make a mark. Irrigate until the water reaches that mark.
Is this safe for all turf types?
It is safe for warm season turf types like Buffalo, Couch and QLD Blue Couch. It is not recommended for cool season varieties like rye, fescue and kentucky bluegrass. Do not apply if intending to oversow your warm season lawn with one of these cool season varieties.
How long before I see results?
Propyzamide works slowly, and needs sufficient water in the soil to be absorbed by the weed. It may take 2 weeks before any discolouration is seen and up to 12 weeks in cooler periods before damage is fatal.
Is there anything else I should do after applying Propyzamide?
Remember to maintain good soil moisture so the herbicide can be absorbed through the roots.
