Can you share your secret '5 Easy Steps to Lawn Care'? Pleeeease?

Mow and edge regularly
Water your lawn as needed (if you’re not using a sprinkler during hot periods you aren’t watering enough)
Fertilise 2-3 times a year with Lawn Play All Rounder
Kill your weeds before they seed (for most this is July/August)
Learn to love your lawn by spending time on it, they are there to be used for bbq’s and games but also home picnics, yoga, camping, painting, the list just goes on and on. Rethink what indoor activities you can take outdoors.

When should I fertilise my lawn?

Lawns need food just like us to grow and develop. While many people associate fertilising with more mowing it doesn’t have to be that way if the right application program and the right product is used. We recommend using LawnPlay Renovate to kick start your season in Spring, but don’t go rushing out the first day of spring, this varies from state to state and year to year so the best indicator is temperature. Wait till you see regular night time temperatures above 10 degrees to get the best results. If you’re lucky enough to live where it doesn’t get that cold then the first day of Spring is go time.

12 weeks after this we recommend an application of LawnPlay All Rounder, then one more All Rounder in Autumn before temperatures start to drop at night (around April). That is a lot to remember though so if you think you might need a reminder, signup to our monthly newsletters and we’ll remind you

Are your products safe for pets and children?

We take the safety of our loved ones very seriously. As we have a range of products and there is a wide range of animals that we keep as pets this can’t be answered with a single generic statement. When should I water my lawn?

There is a little bit of a myth that you shouldn’t water at night. That’s only part of the story, after all most sporting venues aren’t watered during the day, it might be a bit hard to putt, chip or score a goal with the sprinklers running. The important thing about watering is to make sure the soil is wet deeply, this usually requires a wetting agent like Lawn Play Aquaturf. The real truth of the story is watering should be done to reduce the amount of time the leaf is wet. So it’s kind of a half truth. By watering during the day the warm weather and sun dries the leaf so it’s a good practice, however watering in the evening is still acceptable so long as the leaf is drying quickly due to temperature or wind.

How much and how often should I water my lawn?

The frequency depends on many factors such as temperature, wind, soil type, trees and how fast it’s growing. So, for us to tell you how often is near on impossible. It’s best to water deeply and then check each day to see what the moisture is like, if the soil crumbles or your lawn looks grey/blue then it’s time to water. When you’re learning how to properly water your lawn it’s good to use a shovel or a knife to cut open your lawn and see how deep the water has gone in. Most people are surprised when they see how little it goes in. Finally, hand-held triggers don’t put out a lot of water so unless you have a lot of time invest in a sprinkler and a timer.

I have lots of weeds in my lawn what should I do?

Don’t worry. They’ll soon be gone. Just use our Weed Problem Solver. It will help you first identify the weeds your having a problem with and then recommend the right solution (pun intended, ha).

How do I get rid of bindies in my lawn?

Bindies (also called bindii, bindis, bindi-eye and little pricks) are very common in Australia. But whatever you call them, they are painfully annoying. They just love dry, compacted lawns. But it’s easy to kill them, just spray them with Bow and Arrow Herbicide as soon as you see them. Then stop them by coming back by fertilising your lawn twice a year and regular watering it too.

How do I get rid of the clover in my lawn?

Don’t panic. Clover is very common in Australia. It loves lawns that haven’t been fed (i.e. fertilised). But to get rid of it, just spray with Bow and Arrow herbicide and say goodbye. Then keep it away by fertilising your lawn twice a year and regularly watering it too.

How can I get rid of sedge and/or nutgrass in my lawns?

Nutgrass is actually a sedge itself, sedges being a family of grass-like weeds. Being from a different family it needs a different solution. Tempra is a herbicide perfect for knocking out sedge. We know our enemy really well and sedges have glossy leaves which can cause the droplets of herbicide to roll off so the addition of a surfactant like Wetout is recommended to act as a sticker.

Do weed killers (herbicides) also hurt my lawn?

No that would be silly. While we have some herbicides in stock that are total herbicides (kill lots of things) we don’t recommend these for use on the lawn. Selective herbicides like Bow and Arrow herbicide are the go-to on lawns, they selectively kill weeds out of lawn. In some cases, there may be some discolouration depending on turf variety but this disappears with a quick fertilise or over time.

HOW TO FIX: Bad Looking Lawns

I have all these weird spots on my lawn?

There’s a good chance you have a lawn disease, these aren’t overly common in home lawns, and it really depends on the size and colour of the spots, that’s why we have designed our Disease Problem Solver to take the confusion out of identifying the problem.

My lawn just grows too fast. How do I slow it down?

Some lawn types are just like that, especially if you get the right temperature and humidity you can come home 2 days later and find it hard to believe you mowed on the weekend! Plant growth regulators (PGR’s) like Astro actually stop the lawns cells from dividing, meaning it can’t grow! Applied regularly it reduces your mowing significantly freeing you up to enjoy your weekends.

My lawn looks rather 'patchy'. What can I do to fix it?

Lawn Care is often seen as hard work but it really is easier then you may think. Most lawns can be restored by simply mowing and watering regularly and applying a good quality fertiliser like LawnPlay Renovate, its triple ingredient formulation contains wetting agent and biologicals to restore soil health while the nutrients give the lawn the nutrition needed to restore the density and beautiful green colour.
