Not all plants require the same nutrition so no, not all fertilisers can be plant fertilisers.

Maintaining a vibrant and healthy garden requires careful consideration when it comes to selecting the right products for your plants. While some products may promise a lush, green lawn, not all are suitable for the diverse range of plants in your garden. In this blog, we’ll explore why some lawn fertilisers may not be the best choice for your garden plants and how Lawnganics products offer a multipurpose solution. We’ll also provide a guide on using Lawnganics products effectively for various plant types and share our favourite blends for specific plants like azaleas, camellias, gardenias, natives, buxus, roses, and even indoor plants. Additionally, we’ll discuss the importance of incorporating a wetting agent to optimise nutrient absorption for your garden plants.

Why is a plant fertiliser different?

One of the major differences between a plant fertiliser is the nutrient delivery. The standard nutrient profile for many lawn fertilisers is very high nitrogen for a plant.

Not all lawn fertilizers are created equal, and some may contain harsh chemicals that can harm your garden plants. Traditional lawn fertilizers often prioritize rapid leaf growth that can lead to fast uptake of nitrogen, burning your leaves in the process.

Trading this for the essential nutrients required for overall plant health. High levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium can lead to imbalances in the soil, adversely affecting the growth and well-being of your diverse plant species.

Potassium chloride also being a commonly used fertiliser in many lawn and garden fertilisers that may also contribute to soil degradation over time, compromising the ecosystem within your garden. Runoff from these fertilisers can harm local water sources and disrupt the delicate balance of the environment. To avoid these pitfalls, it’s crucial to choose fertilizers that prioritize soil and plant health, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
