Zoysia is relatively new into the homeowner space and brings a touch of elegance to lawns with less work than many other grasses. This grass variety forms a dense and visually appealing carpet. Thriving in both full sun and partial shade, Zoysia is well-suited for lawns where a balance of beauty and adaptability is desired. Its ability to withstand periods of water scarcity makes it a sustainable and attractive choice for various climates.

Mowing Zoysia Grass:

Establish a consistent mowing routine for your Zoysia grass lawn, aiming for an optimal height between 10 to 40 mm dependant on your zoysia type. Regular mowing not only enhances the health and vibrancy of the turf but also manages the unique characteristics of Zoysia. Employ a sharp mower blade to minimize stress on the grass, adjusting the mowing frequency based on the season. Consider scaling back mowing during cooler periods when Zoysia may require less attention.”

Watering Zoysia Grass:

Zoysia grass is resilient when it comes to dry periods and thrives with deep, infrequent watering. Ensure your lawn receives sufficient water to prevent the formation of dry patches, adjusting based on weather conditions. Deep watering fosters a robust root system, enhancing drought tolerance. For consistent moisture distribution, especially during hot and dry periods, employ a sprinkler or irrigation system.

Weeding Zoysia Grass:

To maintain the pristine appearance of your Zoysia grass lawn, engage in proactive weed management. Regularly inspect the lawn, manually removing any emerging small weeds. For larger weed challenges, consider applying a targeted herbicide. Additionally, strategically incorporate pre-emergent herbicides at the start and end of the growing season to prevent grass weed establishment.

Fertilising Zoysia Grass:

Zoysia grass is fantastic in that it is slow growing, with slow growth there is a reduced need for fertiliser. Opt for a formulation with a lower nitrogen content or apply a complete fertiliser at lower rates to enhance the vibrant colour and robust density characteristic of Zoysia.

Renovate Zoysia Grass:

Revitalise your Zoysia grass lawn with aeration, this proves particularly beneficial to enhanced soil health and improved water and nutrient absorption. Regularly assess your lawn’s condition, identifying and addressing any issues to maintain a resilient and visually appealing Zoysia grass lawn.
